Cookie Stack and Labor Day Desserts
You know…any excuse I have to bake is just fine by me and with Labor Day coming up this weekend, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to whip up this Cookie Stack. Seems like I hadn’t made Chocolate Chip Cookies in ages! The boys {and Doug} were thrilled and enjoyed every last one.
The Cookie Stack is such a fun way to serve! With Chocolate Chip Cookies, Cool Whip and fresh fruit it makes not only a delicious treat but a beautiful display!
My vote is for homemade cookies, but you could certainly grab some from the bakery and put together this treat in minutes. And if you are heading to a cookout this weekend for Labor Day…even better!
Are you familiar with Celebrate magazine? I first spotted the Cookie Stack in their Summer edition. The Autumn edition is available now, it’s definitely a must read! The original recipe has a mixture of cream cheese, heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar, but I love Cool Whip plus it’s super easy!
Now…let’s chat about yummy desserts for you to serve at your Labor Day Cookout!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Stack
Easy but impressive looking dessert for any occasion. Recipe from HoosierHomemade.com. Adapted from Celebrate Magazine
Ingredients
Cookies
- 1 cup butter flavor Crisco {you can use regular butter, I like how soft the cookies are when Crisco is used}

- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 – 2 cups milk chocolate chips {or semi-sweet if you prefer}
Cookie Stack

- 1 cup blueberries
- Strawberries and Blueberries for garnish on plate, optional
Instructions
- Beat the butter flavored Crisco and sugars until fluffy
- Add the eggs, vanilla and milk until well combined
- In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine the dry ingredients. Gradually add to the creamed mixture
- Stir in the chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Using a cookie dough scoop {I like 1.5 tablespoon size}, scoop dough, roll into ball and place on greased cookie sheet
- Bake for 6-8 minutes or until light golden
Cookie Stack
- On a large serving platter, place 7 cookies in a circle plus 1 in the middle
- Spread on COOL WHIP, continue to layer cookies and whipped topping
