Best of Cupcakes for 2010

By | Cupcakes | 8 Comments

Earlier this week, as I was looking through some of my older posts, I came across my Goals for 2010. I had a lot of them, and well, I did good in some areas, and other areas I didn’t do so good.

Do you make goals? Or resolutions?

It wasn’t until about half way through the year, that I decided to start a Cupcake Chronicles Newsletter, so I didn’t have it on my goals for 2010, but it is an accomplishment that I’m very proud of.

I hope those of you that are subscribers are enjoying it, and if you aren’t a subscriber and would like to be, just fill out the easy form, and be sure to check which newsletters you would like to receive.

I had MANY favorite cupcakes this year, it was so hard to choose.

January – Snowman Cupcakes

February – Mini Box of Chocolates

March – Easter Chicks

April – Nuggets and Fries

May – Memorial Day Cookout

June – Peanut Butter Cup

July – Pool Cupcakes

August – S’more Cupcakes

September – Autumn Cupcakes with Acorns and chocolate leaves

October – Lil’ Ghost Cupcakes

November – Pilgrims and Indians with Printable place cards

December – Reindeer Cupcakes

If that isn’t enough sugar for you, check out my Best of Baking, and if you are a decorator and not a baker, you might like Mantles for every Season.

It’s been a GREAT year, THANK YOU  to all of you that have helped make it so great!

Happy New Year!!

The Best of Baking 2010

By | Baking, Bar Cookies, Brownies, Cookies, Dessert, Drop Cookies, Muffins, Whoopie Pies | 14 Comments

If you are around here any amount of time, you will quickly learn that I LOVE to bake. I would bake all day…every day…if I could!

Now…if I just didn’t have to do the dishes…

It was fun looking back at all I baked this year. It makes me realize just what else I haven’t and need to share with you.

No Bake…

I feel so blessed to be able to share my Baking with you all! Two of my personal highlights this year were my Baking with Betty trip to the Betty Crocker Kitchens and the Holiday Bake-Off sponsored by I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.

Here are a few of the goodies that we made at Betty Crocker…

The Holiday Bake-Off was in New York City, I had a blast traveling there too!

I made my Twix Bars, I didn’t win, but that’s okay, I had a great time!

What is your favorite thing to bake?

A Mantle for every Season

By | Decorating, Holidays | 21 Comments

As the year draws to a close, one of my favorite things to do is take a look back at the Decorating Projects that I completed. Especially now, since starting this blog, I have a special place to share all of my passions.

I often have readers mention to me, that they can’t believe I get so much done. I seem to work all the time, well, I do…but I LOVE it. I feel so blessed to be able to share with you all my love for my home, baking, cooking and my family! I also couldn’t do many of the things that I am able to get done if I didn’t have my husband, Doug, to help me and my boys.

Hoosier Homemade is really a family affair! Whether they are stringing garland or being forced to try a new recipe, they all help me share my passion with you!

One of the MANY projects that they have helped with during this year, is decorating the Mantle. When I started pulling this post together, Doug and I were surprised that I had decorated 12 Mantles, one for every season, Holiday and a couple others.

  • Soft Spring colors and bunnies were used on the Easter Mantle.
  • With the fresh forsythia, the Spring Mantle brings much needed color into the house.
  • The Summer Mantle with the Pinwheel Garland is one of my favorites. I absolutely LOVE Summer…I know, I’m crazy, but the hotter the better as far as I’m concerned.

  • Our oldest son, Andrew, graduated from High School and I decorated the Mantle in celebration of his graduation.
  • In our town, Fourth of July, is a BIG deal. It also has a special place in my heart, since it’s a time, 20+ years ago, that Doug and I began our relationship.
  • Moving into Fall, this Mantle has a fun Garland made with acorns and other natural elements, you can learn how to make one of your own.

  • Halloween…my creepy Mantle was so fun to decorate, with the ghouls that I printed, the black and white decorations, and of course spiderwebs, it was one of my favorites.
  • An often forgotten Holiday, Thanksgiving is always a very special time for me.
  • And last…my Christmas Mantle! Fresh green, woodland Santas and a homemade Garland make up my favorite Mantle of the year!!

I had lots of fun creating the Garlands too.  The Pinwheel Garland is made with scrapbook paper. The Fall Garland with acorns and items I collected outside is a great no cost project. The Valentine Garland uses cookie cutters for the shapes and scrapbook paper and the Christmas Garland has popcorn, cranberries and dried fruit. You can visit each of the posts to learn how to make them.

Do you decorate your Mantle for the Holidays or Seasons? Share your ideas with us!

New Year’s Cupcakes: Cupcake Tuesday

By | Cupcakes, Holidays, New Year's Eve Cupcakes | 10 Comments

Welcome to Cupcake Tuesday! We LOVE cupcakes…doesn’t everyone? Every Tuesday, we share a different cupcake with you, and then you can share one {or more} of yours, just add your link at the bottom.

We also have a weekly newsletter, Cupcake Chronicles, with exclusive cupcake designs, recipes, product features and a monthly FREE printable for you to download. Sign up HERE to receive Cupcake Chronicles!

Did you enjoy your Christmas? Were you able to create some fun Cupcakes? I took some to my husband’s family, along with some Cookie Dough Truffles and Peanut Butter Cups.

Because we traveled 5 hours, I packed the cupcakes and supplies seperately and added the filling and the frosting after we arrived. I made chocolate with sprinkles and white with cranberry mousse filling topped with marshmallow frosting {recipe coming soon}

Enough about Christmas though, this weekend is New Year’s! Do you have plans? Will you be hosting a party? How about creating some cupcakes?

If you have been around for a little while, you may remember the Cocktail Cupcakes I created last Summer. If not, well, you can read all about them. There is even a video showing you how to create them.

For the New Year’s Cocktail Cupcakes, I baked the cupcakes the same way as the Cocktail Cupcakes, using a white cake mix. Each glass fits about 1/3 of a cup of batter, bake them at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, watching them closely.

They are decorated with white Buttercream Frosting, some I added white sugar pearls and the others I used a round tip to create the “bubbles” with a sprinkle of pearl dust.

Here is a closer view of the tops…

Now, in case you don’t have the Martini Glasses, can’t get them, or simply don’t want to use them. I created some other New Year’s Cupcakes for you also.

The two cupcakes toward the back have a swirl of Buttercream Frosting using the Giant Round Tip and a horn simply stuck into the frosting and cupcake.

The cupcake in the front is a re-creation from last year. Using AirHeads and Starburst candy that I heated for about 15 seconds in the microwave, form the champagne bottle, glasses and streamers.

Here are a few other ideas for you…

These Countdown Clock Cupcakes are super easy. You could even eat one every hour if you want.

And from this year, during the Holiday Cupcake Challenge

Champagne Buttercream and stars make these New Year’s Cupcakes special.

So tell me…do you have plans for New Year’s Eve?

Recipes for Leftover Ham and our Menu Plan

By | Cooking, Main Dishes, Menu Planning | 6 Comments

How was your Christmas? Did you enjoy your time with your family and all the good food?

We had a GREAT Christmas! And lots of good food too! I cooked Ham and the usually side dishes, Sweet Potatoes, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Corn, Biscuits, and of course, dessert.

I thought you all might like some recipes to use up some of your leftover Ham.

Soup and Sandwich night is not only delicious, but also easy and inexpensive. How about a Grilled Ham & Cheese and Potato Soup? Erin at $5 Dinners always has such yummy recipes!

This Cheddar Cheese Soup with Vegetables that Jessica from Good (Cheap) Eats made looks yummy! And I agree with her, you could add a little diced ham too.

Make-Ahead meals are perfect this time of year! Cheesy Pasta Ham & Peas can be made up and frozen for another time.

I have never made anything like these Ham and Pineapple Melts but they look like they would be a hit! I found them on Closet Cooking via Once a Month Mom.

Visit my Ham Leftover Linky from last April for more great ideas!

Our Menu Plan…

Tuesday ~ Ham and Scalloped Potatoes

Wednesday ~ Fettucini Alfredo, Garlic Bread and Salad

Thursday ~ Ham and Broccoli Quiche

Saturday ~ Chili and Baked Potatoe Bar
