Homemade for the Holidays: Christmas Candy

Welcome to Homemade for the Holidays! Well, how is it going? Are you getting close to being done? Only 1 week until Christmas Eve!

During this series, we have baked bread, cookies, made ornaments, and even cupcake wrappers…how about some Christmas Candy?

I have never been a huge candy maker, although, if it’s quick and easy, I’m definitely going to try it. One of the candies I have wanted to make, other than Homemade Marshmallows {coming soon} are Truffles. Just the name makes them seem intimidating, but they are really very easy.

One of the nice things about this recipe, there are no eggs, so you don’t have to worry about eating them.

Cookie Dough Truffles

Oh my!! My boys are going to be so excited when they come home from school today, and then very sad when I tell them we are saving these for the Christmas Party tomorrow night.

Cookie Dough Truffle Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour, all purpose
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (note below)
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
  • Chocolate Almond Bark or melting chocolate
  • White Almond Bark or melting chocolate (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Directions:

In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy, beat in vanilla. Gradually add the flour, alternating with the milk. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

Using a cookie dough scoop, drop dough onto waxed paper and place in fridge for about 1 hour.

Remove from fridge and roll into balls. Place back into fridge for about 1 hour.

Melt Chocolate, dip balls, coating evenly. Drizzle with melted white chocolate and add sprinkles if desired. You could also add chopped cookies or candy canes.

Note: I did not add walnuts, but you can certainly add them if you want. Also, I wanted to try some of the Vermont Chocolate Chips that the company sent. So, since the recipe called for Mini chips, I chopped the large chips in the food processor. I also received Cocoa and some Christmas candy {coming on Tuesday}

When Vermont Nut Free Chocolates contacted me, I was so excited…Chocolate! Well sure, I LOVE chocolate!!

Then when I visited their website, I was quickly impressed! Their chocolate are all NUT FREE! That is huge!! I know several families who battle allergies, my good friend Holly, has children with allergies, including nut allergies. So, for a company to make Nut Free Chocolate, I think that’s awesome!

On Tuesday, I’ll be sharing their other chocolate with you, but let me tell you, they were awesome! Yes…were…when I opened the bag, and set it on my desk, I knew I was in trouble.

I found these cute little containers at the Dollar Tree, and thought they would be perfect for Christmas Candy!

Tie with a simple ribbon and you have a wonderful Homemade Gift, for about $1.25!! Perfect for neighbors, the Mail Man, I think I will give one to the UPS and Fed Ex delivery men.

Now…moving on…

Christmas Chocolate Lollipops

These Chocolate Lollipops are the easiest ever! Here is what you will need…

Melt chocolate in the microwave. I got about 10 lollipops out of 1 square of Almond Bark. Spoon melted chocolate into the Squeeze Bottle, and squeeze chocolate onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Immediately add the stick, turning to coat it. Then quickly add decorations. Place in fridge until set.

Wouldn’t the kids have a blast making these? Do you make Christmas Candy?

  1. Nice!!! 🙂 I would love to try some of your recipes. But can you please tell me:
What is the equivalent of “cups” in ml. ? Hope you know 🙂

  2. I am making these for Christmas dinner, but I’m curious as to how many ounces of chocolate you used to dip them in?

    1. Hi Brittany, it really depends on how much each ball is coated with. The Almond Bark only comes in 1 size, but you can break apart the pieces and melt a few squares at a time. Sorry I can’t be more specific, let me know if you have more questions. I’m happy to help.

  3. Those truffles look yummy! Do you have to store them in the refrigerator or can they sit out? And how far ahead of Christmas can i make them and still have them be good? I would love to make some for my Christmas baskets this year but I’m trying to stick with non refrigerated things.

    1. Hi there, you do need to store them in the fridge, but they can be left out several hours {6-8 max}. You can make them weeks ahead and freeze them also.
      Hope that helps.
