Traditionally the Yule log cake is an elaborate cake consisting of a rolled, filled sponge cake, frosted with chocolate buttercream to look like tree bark with meringue mushrooms, marzipan holly sprigs, spun sugar cobwebs and any other sort of edible decoration.
