Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Have you ever made Peanut Butter Cups? They are really easy, and trust me when I say – once you have the homemade version, store bought will never taste the same. 

This Homemade Peanut Butter Cups recipe has just a handful of ingredients, and I bet you have all of them in your pantry. 

You can make them plain for any occasion, or use a heart shaped silicone mold for a special Valentine’s Day treat.

Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter – creamy is best
  • Butter – the real stuff
  • Powdered Sugar – also known as Confectioners Sugar
  • Salt
  • Chocolate Chips – I like using Milk Chocolate, however semi-sweet are fine too
  • Chocolate Candy Bars – like Hershey’s
  • Colored sprinkles, optional

How to Make Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

  1. Fill mini muffin tins with mini paper liners.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup peanut butter, butter and confectioners sugar and salt until smooth, set aside.
  3. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips, candy bars and remaining peanut butter, stir until smooth. (this usually takes about 2 minutes)
  4. Drop teaspoonfuls of chocolate mixture into paper liners.
  5. Top each with a scant teaspoonful of peanut butter mixture
  6. Top each with chocolate mixture to cover.
  7. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.
  8. Refrigerate until set

You will need – 

For the Heart Shaped Peanut Butter Cups, fill a piping bag with chocolate mixture, fill a heart shaped silicone ice cube mold about 1/2 full with chocolate mixture.
Add a small amount of peanut butter mixture, fill to the top with chocolate, covering the peanut butter.
Place in fridge until set, turn over and pop out of mold.

The Peanut Butter Cups can be made a couple weeks in advance, just store them in an airtight container in the fridge until you are ready to give them as gifts or serve them at a party.

While we love Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, there is really nothing that compares to the richness of a Homemade Peanut Butter Cup.

One of the best things about this Homemade Peanut Butter Cups recipe is how versatile it is. The ideas are endless for colors of cupcake liners and sprinkles. 

You can make them for Bridal or Baby Showers and use pink, blue and white – or match of the theme of the shower. 

Birthdays, Potlucks or Backyard Parties are also great ideas. 

For these Peanut Butter Cups they are made in mini cupcake liners and a sprinkle of white nonpareils on top.

Easy to make Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Creamy Peanut Butter, divided
  • 1+1/2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips or Milk Chocolate Chips
  • 4 Milk Chocolate Candy Bars (1.55 ounces each), coarsely chopped (I used Hershey’s)
  • Colored sprinkles, optional

Instructions

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve.

You may have some peanut butter mixture left over depending on how much you add to each cup.
