Washi Tape Wooden Birds: Spring Craft
Do you want to know one of the best things about Easter? Well, besides the candy? It’s the beginning of the best season…Spring! Even though it’s still pretty chilly here, Spring has sprung in our home. These cute little Washi Tape Wooden Birds are super easy and go together in minutes!
Sitting on our Spring Mantel, they add a bit of whimsy and a splash of color! But you will have to wait a couple days to see the rest of the Spring Mantel. The Washi Tape Wooden Birds were inspired from the Washi Tape Owl from Create Craft Love.
Let’s gather our supplies…
I found most all of the supplies at Michael’s Craft Store, other craft stores will probably have similar items.
Washi Tape Wooden Birds Supplies
- Washi Tape – the brand I found is Recollections, even with it being on sale it’s a little expensive, I think about $4 for the package, but it does go a super long way
- Wooden Birds
- Beads – for the eyes
Tools
- Cutting Mat
- Ruler
- Scissors
- X-ACTO Knife
- Mod Podge for Paper
- Small foam brush
- Pencil
- Glue for eye – I used my hot glue gun
Step 1
- First you need to start a reference point to be sure the Washi Tape is straight
- Use the ruler and make a couple marks, I laid the bird on the desk making sure his feet were straight and measured up from the bottom of the feet
Step 2
- Connect the marks and draw a straight line
Step 3
- Lay down the first piece of Washi Tape, make sure it’s straight
Step 4
- Continue laying the Washi Tape down and smoothing it with your fingers
- Don’t worry if it’s not perfect, you can remove it and reposition it very easily
Step 5
- The bird is covered, make sure the Washi Tape is smooth
Step 6
- Turn the bird over with the Washi Tape down on the cutting mat, use the X-ACTO Knife to trim around the edge, removing the excess Washi Tape
Step 7
- And the bird is covered
Step 8
- Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge
- I had these little containers of Mod Podge in my crafting supplies, they come about 6 or 8 in the package with a variety of different Mod Podge for different uses
- After the Mod Podge is dry, glue the bead on for the eye
Stop back on Wednesday to see the rest of the Spring Mantel! And in the meantime, here are a couple more projects we have made with Washi Tape…
