These Homemade Twix Bars are a recipe that I have been making for many, many years. In fact, they received Second place at the Indiana State Fair years ago. I grew up in the 4-H community and participated in the fair when I was a young girl. Later on, after I was married, I found my way back to the County and State Fair Open Class Division, baking and crafting for many years. It was a very busy time in my life, but one that brings back great memories.

Not only were these Twix Bars always a hit at the fair, they are always a HUGE hit everytime I take them to share with people. They are perfect for a potluck, cookout or just a special treat for your family.

Homemade Twix Bars

The base of the Twix Bars are Club Crackers, the filling is a caramel mixture made on the stove top with graham crackers, butter, brown sugar, white sugar and milk. Another layer of Club Crackers, then into the refrigerator they go to set up.

The frosting is a combination of milk chocolate chips and peanut butter. Then back into the refrigerator for the frosting to set up.

These No Bake Bar Cookies are perfect for Summer, or really great anytime of year. I usually include them on my Holiday Cookie Trays as well because everyone loves them. And yes, in my opinion, they taste just like a Twix Candy Bar.

Ingredients

  • 48 Club Crackers

Caramel Filling

  • 1 cup Graham Crackers, crushed
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar,packed
  • 1/3 cup White Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Butter or Margarine

Icing

  • 2/3 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup Milk Chocolate Chips

Instructions

Bars

  1. Begin my putting a layer of Club Crackersin a 13 x 9 pan, I can fit 24 crackers in.
  2. In a saucepan on the stove, combine the caramel filling ingredients.
  3. Bring to a boil, continue to stir and boil for approximately 5 minutes (I usually go a little less). The mixture will be caramel like and pull away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Pour over the crackers, being very careful, the mixture is extremely hot.
  5. Immediately top with another layer of Club Crackers, pressing down slightly
  6. Place in fridge to chill for at least 30 minutes

Icing

  1. Combine peanut butter and chocolate chips in small bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, stir well (cook a little longer if needed) and frost crackers

Update: If you live somewhere that you are not able to buy Club Crackers, Mel Cotte shared a recipe with shortbread for the base.

great recipie! i changed the recipie up a bit- extended the chocolate mix (used toffee bits instead of the butterscitch) so i could put a layer of chocolate on the bottom. (i lined my dish with parchment to make for easier cutting) i also used a smaller dish than the recipie recommended so i suggest expanding the caramel mixture also. my house smelled incredible after making these, btw! i highly suugest starting with a layer of chocolate- oh, i used dark chocolate instead of milk and a natural peanut butter with flax seed, and would maybe suggest a light sprinkling of kosher salt on the top layer, i found the end product to be very sweet and was suprised that the club crackers weren’t salty enough.

  2. thanks for commenting on my blog, on the twix link that I shared! We just made them AGAIN, for the 2nd time this week to take to a family thing today. 🙂 SOO yummy!! I sent lots of people your way, on my FB and my blog!

  3. I would think sunflower butter would work in place of the peanut butter. One of my friends has a kid with a peanut allergy and they use sunflower butter instead of peanut butter, just not sure if she’s ever done that in a recipe like this. Good luck!

  4. I am going to make these tonight. Trying out first to decide if I’ll make these for my cookie swap next week. They sound yummy!!!!!

  5. Wow, these WERE great! I made some and took to my sister’s for our belated Thanksgiving. These were a big hit! Thanks for the recipe!!!

  6. Just wanted to tell you that I made these over Thanksgiving and my family absolutely loved them. I will definitely be making these again.

    1. Thanks so much for letting me know Beth! I’m glad you and your family liked them!
      Happy Baking!

  7. I made these in a slightly larger pan, so they were thinner. I didn’t have peanut butter chips, so I made them with vanilla & left out the chocolate chips too. (I have people who can’t do chocolate. ) Next time I will get the peanut butter chips to do it right.
I took them to the Senior Citizen Center dinner & had 2 people ask for the recipe!

  8. Stumbled Upon this and these look so phenomenal. Um, yum.

  9. Fabulously clever! I will definitely be trying this! Seems like you could throw in some other ingredients and it’d be another candy bar!

  10. Wow! I found a recipe in a British cookbook that my hubby bought for me once for Millionaire’s Slice that looked great so I made them. Can you imagine my joy when it tasted just like a Twix bar!! So, we call them homemade twix bars and they are my brother-in-law’s favorite dessert. Whenever his birthday rolls around, I always know what to give him! My recipe is much different from yours as you make a shortbread crust that bakes, but so delicious…maybe I’ll try yours next summer to compare!

    1. The shortbread crust sounds like a great alternative. There were some over-seas folks that couldn’t find club crackers.
Let me know what you think! Thanks for visiting!

    2. maybe to save some time on the shortbread you could use Chess cookies from Pepperidge Farm?
