Fresh Strawberry Tarts

By | Baking, Dessert, Home page - Slider, Pies/Tarts | 4 Comments

Time is growing close…do you know what you are baking for Father’s Day? No? Well I have you covered…these Fresh Strawberry Tarts are easy and sure to be a hit with Dad, Grandpa and your hubby!

Growing up my Dad had the most amazing Strawberry patch. I vividly remember him on his hands and knees picking quarts and quarts of berries for my Mom to bake up a Pie, make some Freezer Jam or simply eat fresh from the patch.

I miss those days when life seemed to be much easier, a relaxing afternoon under the Maple Tree or a walk to the beach. These Fresh Strawberry Tarts definitely takes me back to those easy days of Summer.

Complete with Cowboy Burgers with Homemade Onion Rings, Bush’s Black Bean Fiesta Grillin’ Beans, Pasta Salad, Fresh Strawberry Tarts and a fun Centerpiece that the kiddos can help make for Dad…this Father’s Day Celebration goes together in a snap!

Liz says…If you don’t have a cookie cutter 4 inches, use a cup or glass, that’s what I did.

Burgers and Beans for Father’s Day

By | Cooking, Holidays, Home page - Slider, Main Dishes, Side Dishes | 3 Comments

Father’s Day is Sunday…are you cooking Dad a special meal? Dad’s love Burgers and Beans! How about serving up these Cowboy Burgers with Homemade Onion Rings, Bush’s Black Bean Fiesta Grillin’ Beans, Pasta Salad and Fresh Strawberry Tarts for dessert?

Wouldn’t Dad be excited with this Father’s Day Celebration? Yesterday I shared how to make the Centerpiece complete with free printable flag banners. So now let’s get grilling…

Grill up your favorite burger patty, I simply add a little salt and pepper to ground beef this time. Spread barbecue sauce on a fresh bakery bun, top with cheese, lettuce, tomato and of course, the onion rings, finish them off with jalapeno slices if you like.

Then we need some sides…Bush’s Black Bean Fiesta Grillin’ Beans went perfect with these Cowboy Burgers! Last month I introduced you to the new Grillin’ Beans from Bush’s, there are seven new Bush’s Grillin’ Beans…Sweet Mesquite, Southern Pit Barbecue, Bourbon and Brown Sugar, Steakhouse Recipe, Texas Ranchero, Smokehouse Tradition that we served with the Grilled Butterflied Chicken, and Black Bean Fiesta

The Black Bean Fiesta Grillin’ Beans are packed with flavor, they have black beans simmered in a zesty chipotle sauce with crisp corn and red peppers. Even my picky eater loved them!

By | Crafts, DIY Projects, Home page - Slider | 6 Comments

Show Dad just how special he is with this casual and fun Father’s Day Celebration! Complete with Cowboy Burgers, Pasta Salad, Bush’s Grillin’ Beans, Fresh Strawberry Tarts and an Easy Table Centerpiece that the kiddos can make for Dad!

First we are going to work on the fun Centerpiece made with recycled containers, scrapbook paper, wooden dowels, ribbon and printables from Celebrate Magazine.

One of my VERY favorite magazines is Phyllis Hoffman Celebrate, it’s jam packed with amazing ideas like this Father’s Day Celebration!  The Centerpiece was lots of fun to put together and I had it completed in about 20 minutes or less. Let me show you what I used…

Did you know Walmart has lots of fun scrapbook paper? And it’s only $5 for a whole package! I grabbed the Sports Themed Paper, and a package of solid colors as well.

Father’s Day Party Centerpiece Supplies:

  • Recycled containers
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • Ribbon – Doug liked the one that looked like a measuring tape
  • Wooden Dowels – available in the craft area
  • Mini Clothespins – available in the office supply area
  • Tape Runner or glue
  • Pea Gravel to weight down the containers
  • Peanuts in the shell to hide the gravel and to snack on if you want
  • Father’s Day Printables – available from Celebrate

  1. Measure containers and cut scrapbook paper to fit, glue on with tape runner
  2. Fill with gravel and push a wooden dowel into the middle
  3. Print out the banner flags on cardstock, and cut out
  4. Attach ribbon to dowels
  5. Set up on table, attach printable flags with a clothespin
  6. Fill with peanuts

You can find Celebrate Magazine at Walmart, along with all the other supplies I used.

Father’s Day Dinner Ideas: Grilled Pork Chops

By | Cooking, Holidays, Main Dishes | 2 Comments

Sunday is Father’s Day! Do you cook a special dinner for your Dad or hubby?

We have been grilling up a storm on our new grill, and these Pork Chops have quickly become a favorite with my men! The marinade has a sweet, citrus flavor that was perfect on the Grilled Pork Chops, but could be used pretty much on any meat.

But first, I have something VERY exciting to share with you! See that little blue box at the top of the recipe? It’s a brand new feature that I have for my readers, and you are going to LOVE it! This will be a location that will make it easier for you to store recipes you find here to a central recipe box and then add the ingredients you need to your weekly shopping list.
I’ve teamed up with ZipList.com to make this possible. They power the recipe boxes and shopping lists you find online at popular food sites, like MarthaStewart.com and AOL’s KitchenDaily.com, and now they’re at Hoosier Homemade. You can add recipes to one central recipe box here, on ZipList.com, on any other partner websites or mobile apps, or using ZipList’s free mobile apps, and they all get saved in one place.

Pretty cool huh?
So here are the basics. First, you’ll now see a blue “Save Recipe” button next to the title of each recipe, just above the Ingredients. I have added it to today’s Grilled Pork Chops Recipe. When you click this blue button you’ll be able to save this recipe to a recipe box that you can access from the new RECIPE BOX section on the navigation bar at the top of the page, right under the HOME button.
You also have the option to save the recipe ingredients to your grocery list, making it easy to plan your weekly shopping. You can then access your grocery list, which has automatically categorized the recipe ingredients by aisle, from the new shopping list section that can also be found on the same navigation bar.{under HOME} You can then add anything else you need to buy for the week, like milk, eggs and juice, to the same list.

Grilled Pork Chops

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes

  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple juice
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8 Pork Chops

  1. In a bowl, combine all ingredients except pork chops.
  2. Place pork chops in a ziploc bag.
  3. Pour marinade over pork chops and seal.
  4. Place in fridge for 2-3 hours.
  5. Drain and discard marinade.
  6. Grill pork chops on medium high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, depending on thickness of chops.
  7. You can easily cut this recipe in half for fewer pork chops.

The Ingredients…

I bought a large package of Pork Chops at Walmart, there were 8 large chops. We grilled all 8 because of the house full of men I have, but you could certainly freeze part of them for another meal. It’s less expensive to buy meat in large packages, just split the package, place in freezer ziploc bags and they are ready for another meal.

Is your mouth watering yet?

Doug has been wanting to re-create the Pork-on-a-stick that he and the boys always look forward to at the County Fair. Now, he can grill his own with this marinade!
