Super Bowl Cupcakes:Packers vs. Steelers

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?? Super Bowl Sunday is upon us! Are you hosting a party? Or maybe attending?

I’m not a huge Football Fan, but I definitely love all the fun food. These Super Bowl Cupcakes were really fun to create. I started with a chocolate cupcake, added some grass, a Peanut Butter Truffle and printable toppers and wrapped them in a football cupcake wrapper.

Here is what you will need to create your own…

Ingredients

  • Cupcakes {baked and cooled}
  • Buttercream Frosting, tinted green

Peanut Butter Truffles

  • 2 squares of white chocolate {I use Almond Bark}
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup Rice Krispie cereal {or other puffy cereal} crushed

Instructions

Peanut Butter Truffle

  1. Melt chocolate in microwave for 1 minute, stir until completely melted.
  2. Add the peanut butter and stir well.
  3. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and cereal.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Place in wax paper and place in fridge to chill for 2-3 hours.

  7. To form footballs, roll a small amount of peanut butter mixture into a ball.
  8. Then roll into a log shape, and then pinch the ends and flatten out the football, forming with your fingers.

  10. Melt chocolate {I use Almond Bark, found in the baking aisle} in the microwave.
  11. Dip the footballs until completely coated and place on a piece of wax paper.

  13. It’s easier to put the wax paper on a cutting board or a plate, that way you can easily move them in and out of the fridge. The extra chocolate breaks off easily, so you don’t have to be perfect when dipping.
  14. After the footballs are set, add the seams with white frosting and a #3 tip.

Cupcakes

  1. Bake and cool cupcakes.
  2. For the grass, fit your decorator bag with #233 tip from Wilton, then fill with green Buttercream Frosting. Hold the bag away from the cupcake a little bit and let the frosting fall onto the cupcake. It takes a little practice, but it’s not hard. If you don’t have the tip, or can’t find it, you could also frost the cupcake and use a tootpick or the tip of a small knife to create a similar look.

After the footballs are set, add the seams with white frosting and a #3 tip.

While the Truffles are setting up, create the toppers. You will need…

I found these fun printables over at BellaGrey Designs, she is part of the Martha Stewart Dreamers into Doers. You will need to download the printables {they’re FREE}, print them out and then cut them. I made mine square, but you could also cut them out with a hole punch like BellaGrey showed.

After you have them cut out, simply tape a lollipop stick to the back of the printable.

The Football Cupcake Wrappers were made with scrapbook paper, I used a simple pattern, cut them out and taped them around the cupcake. Add the Football Truffles and the topper.

So tell me…are the Packers or the Steelers going to win?? Make your prediction!!

    They are so sweet

  2. Hi Liz. I’m making these cupcakes tonight for my dad’s birthday party tomorrow since he loves football. He’s going to flip over these! Did you need to use a toothpick to keep the football truffles in place on the grass, or just set them on the icing before it has set? Thanks!

    1. Hi Rhondi, the truffles are just sitting on the grass. You can use a toothpick if needed, but I didn’t.
      Have fun! Enjoy the party!

  5. How many footballs does that truffle recipe make? Should I double it for 24 cuppies? /these are adorable! My daughter and I are having fun with them…

    1. You should get at least 24 truffles, if not more, depending on how large you make them.
      Happy Baking!

  6. FYI, the Print Friendly function for printing this recipe isn’t working.

    1. Rosie, I checked and it worked for me. It took a couple seconds, but it opened in a PDF window. Please let me know if you have more trouble.

  7. First of all, many thanks for sharing your talents with the blog world! Secondly, the Green Bay Packers will win the Super Bowl:)!

  8. Shirley S. says:

*******THE STEELERS******* ARE GOING TO WIN OF COURSE!!!!!!! GO STEELERS!!!! BLACK AND GOLD ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

  9. I’d love to see Green Bay win. 10 years ago when I married my Pittsburgh Steelers fan husband, we laughed. “What will we do if our teams ever play each other in the Super Bowl?” And we laughed. ha. I joked that someone would be going to bed sad that night, and the other person would be sleeping on the couch. :0) But we’re good sports. It’s a game. We’ll have fun with it. (Go Packers!)

  10. Definitely the Packers!

    I also really enjoy cupcakes!
