Baker’s Rack Organizing with Cupcake Pinwheel Garland

Jump to recipe!

Last week during the Grateful Giveaways, I shared my repurposed Baker’s Rack. Years ago I had a neighbor give me a Baker’s Rack that she wasn’t using. After moving a few years ago, we didn’t have a good place for it so we used it in the garage. And actually for a little while outside as well, for a potting shelf.

I knew that at some point I could give it new life and have the perfect spot for it. My office has become a bit overwhelming, to say the least, and I definitely work much better when everything is organized.

With just a few cans of spray paint and some scrapbooking supplies that I had on hand for the Cupcake Pinwheels, I created not only a spot to keep things organized, but it’s also really cute. Especially the Cupcake Pinwheel Garland!

First, the Baker’s Rack…

Doug helped with the painting, he used Krylon gray primer and then I found some paint on clearance at Walmart. Bahama Sea…I think spray paint is my new best friend!

While it was drying, I made the Cupcake Pinwheel Garland. Last year, when I made the Pinwheel Garland for the Summer Mantel, I knew there would be more Pinwheels to come. With some cute cupcake scrapbook in hand, I gathered up the supplies…

Cupcake Pinwheel Garland Supplies:

  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Brads
  • Tiny Clothespins {I found these at Walmart in the office supplie area}
  • Glue

Since I already shared the tutorial on how to make the pinwheels, I won’t bore you again. Head on over and check it out!

Aren’t they pretty? The thing I love about the Pinwheels is that they are so versatile. Put a stick on them for cute plant decoration, and be sure to watch soon for a fun Pinwheel Cupcake!

Add the pinwheels to a ribbon with the clothespins.

I just love being organized!!

Love what you did with your bakers rack! Gives me ideas. First I need to get mine together. I was given the same one (I think) but it’s in pieces. Could you possibly send me a photo of the bottom half of the rack? Or the whole thing. I know it’s a long shot but I can’t find any other images of it. Thank you!

    1. Hi Tricia, the photo in the post (which is old) is the only photo I have online. I do still have the rack and could probably get you a picture of what you need. Can you be more specific? The photo shows almost the whole rack.

  2. I have this exact same baker’s rake only mine is gold and white. I am redoing my kitchen and really want to get rid of the gold so was thrilled to see what you had done. It looks great! Any special kind of paint I need to use or just anything that works on metal? Any advice would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Debbie, I would suggest Krylon paint for metal, you should also use a primer, it will give it a good coat and look better.
Good luck! Let me know how your Baker’s Rack turns out.

  3. Super cute. What’s the name of the cupcake scrap paper? And where did you get it from?

    1. Hi, I’m sorry I don’t know the name of the paper, I made the pinwheels last year. I bought the paper at Hobby Lobby.
      Hope that helps!

Stopping in from Made by You Mondays on Skip to my Lou. This is such a cute project! I especially love the banner, how clever!

  5. I have a bakers rack, was getting tired of it, you have given me a great idea, I love yours.
    Thanks so much.

  6. Love it!!! It looks fantastic. Spray paint is wonderful.

  7. CUTE! I have a smaller baker’s rack that I lifted from my neighbor’s trash pile one day. It’s been sitting in my greenhouse holding pots, but this is *much* cuter!

  8. So cute! That is now my next project. Just wondering….where did you get the adorable paisley fabric organizers???

  9. I had one of those bakers racks…I think my mom got it for us from Spiegel’s catalog. They do hold a lot and we also found many uses for it over the years. Love the bright color and how you are using it in your studio. Following you from the Spray Paint party. Have a great week, fondly Roberta

  10. Fun! I just found a (free) ugly silver baker’s rack on a curb in my neighborhood. I grabbed it, spray painted it ivory, and now we’re using it as a sort of potter’s table/toy organizer on our back porch. I love repurposing stuff that would have been trash!

  11. I love the color!! I almost bought one similar to this at a yard sale this weekend:( Now I wish I would have!! The pinwheels are a great touch!!
