St. Patrick’s Day Food: Irish Soda Bread and Shamrock Pretzels
We continue our St. Patrick’s Week today with some traditional Irish Soda Bread and kid-friendly Shamrock Pretzels. Yesterday I shared some recipes for Appetizers and Main Dishes.
Do you cook a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner?
These Shamrock Pretzels are easy and fun to make, starting with dough in the bread machine makes them even easier. I started with a pretzel recipe that I found over at Frugal Upstate, shaped them into Shamrocks and added a little cinnamon, sugar and green sugar.

Even though Irish Soda Bread was not invented by the Irish, it is a very common bread served on St. Patrick’s Day. While most breads have yeast to make them light, Irish Soda Bread does not contain yeast, so it is a heavy, dense bread. And although I’m not a huge bread fan, I do like this bread. The dried cranberries and orange zest adds a lot of flavor to it.
