Gardening with Antiques
I couldn’t wait any longer to share my wagon with you! I’m just so tickled with how it turned out.
We have been working on the front of our house for a couple months, landscaping, painting, and planting flowers. More to come on that soon…
If you’ve been around here, you probably know that I’m kinda a nut for old, broken junk. Really, I suppose they are Antiques, but many people see them as junk…I see them as treasurers! I also love to use my treasurers for things they weren’t really meant to be used for, like my wagon and watering cans (coming soon too). Gardening with Antiques can add a lot of whimsy to any garden or even a Front Porch area.
- My wagon had seen better days
- Actually it was a lot easier to work with since it was in pieces
- We looked several places to find some neat numbers to just apply to the wagon, but only found ones that were really expensive. We needed house numbers anyway, so we bought these and I just used them as stencils.
- I laid them on the piece of wood, spacing them out evenly
- And using a white crayon, I just traced around them
- Here are the numbers all traced
- Then I used a little left over paint from the porch, and filled in the numbers, then used a fine tip paint brush to make sure the white wasn’t showing
- We will use the numbers on the peak of the Front Porch
- Then I put the wagon in the front flower bed, before filling it with compost and potting soil. I didn’t drill any holes in it because the sides don’t fit tight anyway, so the water easily drains out.
This is right after I planted the plants.
And this is about 10 days after planting, the plants sure do grow quickly and fill in.

Great Idea- you are very creative. Luckily, I’ve not thrown out any old wagons to feel bad about like the watering cans. 🙂 Thanks for sharing at the TGP!
This is just beautiful–what a great idea!
I’m new and wasn’t able to get the little thing at the bottom to work, but here is a link to my latest gardening blog post:

Very cute! You are so clever! Thanks for participating in Tutorial Tuesday!
I love that little wagon! Too cute! And your flowers seem to be thriving in it.
Your craft turned out absolutely beautiful!
What a great idea. It turned out beautifully!
Well now, I should have known this would be by you. I always seem to pick your stuff!! 🙂
I am loving this little vintage number! The blue simply pops against your flowers in the most inviting way. Such a fun twist from a typical planter. This one is right up my alley! (as you already know. LOL)

I LOVE this. I too have a fondness for junk, antiques and broken, upcycled, recyclced, you name it stuff! This is adorable. I try to plant…I almost kept my old kitchen sink to plant in…but my hubby gave me “that look.”
This looks adorable! The flowers sure did grow fast!
Oh… I love that! So sweet! I want a little wagon!
