Chocolate Doughnuts for Secret Recipe Club
I’m super excited to tell you about a new group that I’m very honored to be a part of…Secret Recipe Club was created by Amanda’s Cooking to bring together food bloggers. We are assigned a different blogger each month, and it’s a secret until our post goes live and we reveal the blogger.
My secret blogger this month…Kate from Kitchen Trial and Error. By day she solves environmental issues in New York, by night..an amazing cook and baker! Some of the recipes that caught my eye on her blog…Blackberry Swirl Ice Cream {oh I wish I had an ice cream maker}, French Silk Pie and her secret recipe swap from last month, Roasted Banana Rum Cake! YUM!
While browsing around Kitchen Trial and Error, these Raspberry Glazed Baked Chocolate Donuts caught my eye, not only do they look amazing, but while visiting Wilton last week, I picked up some Mini Doughnut Pans at the Tent Sale.{Be watching for a Giveaway and Re-cap on my trip coming Thursday!}
Perfect timing!
Chocolate Doughnuts
Easy and delicious Baked Doughnuts. Recipe from HoosierHomemade.com
Ingredients
Doughnuts
- 1 cup flour, all-purpose
- 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoon butter, cold, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 -2 teaspoons milk
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda. {Note below}
- Whisk in sugar, nutmeg and salt.
- Add butter and use your fingers to combine until ingredients resemble coarse sand.
- In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine buttermilk {note below}, sour cream, vanilla and egg.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, fold together just until combined.
- Lightly spray doughnut pans, add batter about 1/2 full.
- Bake for about 8 minutes or until doughnuts spring back when touched.
- While doughnuts are cooling, mix powdered sugar and milk. Slowly add milk until you get desired consistency.
- Dip doughnuts in glaze {or drizzle} and immediately add sprinkles.
- Notes: It’s important to sift the ingredients {picture below}, don’t just whisk them together. Sifting will get any large pieces in the cocoa powder. This step took a little more time, but well worth it. The doughnuts were light and fluffy because I sifted the dry ingredients.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, add a small amount of vinegar to a measuring cup, then fill with milk, measuring the amount needed for the recipe.
Adding a glaze and sprinkles makes the doughnuts festive, you could also add powdered sugar, or even the Raspberry Glaze like Kate did.
