Wicked Witch Cupcakes for Halloween
Halloween is one of those holidays that has endless ideas for fun food. Some of the food can be creepy, and honestly, it’s a little difficult for me to cook and especially eat any of it. So I try to keep Halloween Food fun, and not too creepy or gross. These Wicked Witch Cupcakes are on the boarder between fun…creepy…and a little spooky!
But, before I get to the Witch Cupcakes, I have a bit of housekeeping to mention. First, don’t miss the Duncan Hines and Wilton Giveaway going on right now, and if you are a Cupcake Chronicles Newsletter subscriber, be sure to enter the exclusive Cake Mate Giveaway!
I also wanted to mention Facebook. It’s being really wonky lately and I’m not sure you all are seeing my updates in your News Feed. Christi who blogs at Love From The Oven shows you how easy it is to be sure your favorite blogs and website are in your feed. I won’t go into a lot of detail, because Christi covers everything you need to know. Oh and if you aren’t a Love From The Oven fan…you should be!
Now…on with the Wicked Witch Cupcakes for Halloween…
Don’t they look fun next to our Haunted House? With just a few supplies, you can create your own and they are easy enough, the kiddos can help with most of the decorating. First you will want to make the Witch Hats…
Witch Hat Supplies:
- Chocolate {or regular} Graham Crackers
- Round Cookie Cutter
- Melting Chocolate – I used brown, lime green and orange Wilton candy melts
- Sugar Ice Cream Cones
- Sprinkles and Sanding Sugar
- Witches Hat
- Cut the graham cracker with the cookie cutter, it will not be completely round, because of the size of the cracker, but it’s okay
- Melt the candy melts in the microwave, cover the graham cracker and the ice cream cone with the melted chocolate. You can either dip them if the chocolate is thin enough, or just spread the chocolate on with an offset spatula, which is what I did.
- Immediately add sprinkles or sugar before the chocolate sets up
- Place on a piece of wax paper until set
- After both pieces are set, re-heat the chocolate, dip the edge of the cone in the chocolate and then attach it to the circle
- Let dry until set
Wicked Witch Cupcake Supplies:
- 2 cupcakes for each Witch – I baked mine in 2 different shaped cupcake pans. The cupcakes for the head will have the liner removed, so no need to bake them in a patterned liner.
- Orange, Green, White and Black Frosting
- 2 Decorator Bags fitted with #3 round tip
- Toasted Coconut
- Green {watermelon} Air Head Candy
- Yellow Starburst Candy
- Black Licorice for the mole
- Crashing Witch – straws, Tootsie Rolls and Fruit Stripe Gum
Instructions:
- Bake and cool cupcakes, remove the liners from the cupcakes for the heads
- Toast coconut in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes
- Frost the larger cupcake with Orange Frosting, set aside
- Trim the edges of another cupcake, if necessary, to get the head shape
- Frost head in Green Frosting
- Sprinkle toasted coconut on for hair, add to the orange frosted cupcake
- Soften Air Head in microwave about 5 seconds, cut off small pieces and mold for the nose
- Soften the Starburst in microwave about 5 seconds, cut off small pieces and mold for teeth
- Fit the Decorator Bags with #3 tips, fill with white and black frosting
- Pipe on the face, add the nose and teeth
- Cut a very small piece of black licorice for the mole
- Add a little more green frosting to the top front of the head and add the hat
Looks like Witchy Poo didn’t make it into the front door…
For the Crashing Witch Cupcake, soften a Tootsie Roll in your hands, tear off a small piece and mold it around the end of a straw. Cut a small square of Fruit Stripe Gum and gently push onto the shoe. Poke a hole into the cupcake liner and gently push the legs into the cupcake.
So what do you think? Fun? Creepy? Spooky?
