Dr. Seuss “The Lorax” Cupcakes

Welcome to Cupcake Tuesday! Be sure to check out the ALL NEW Cupcake Heaven page! And if you are in need to a special cupcake design, use the “Be a Hero” area!

The whimsical world of Dr. Seuss comes to life once again this weekend when “The Lorax” Movie opens in theaters. After seeing Bakerella’s The Lorax Cake Pops, I was inspired to create The Lorax Cupcakes.

I’m super excited to share them with you, so let’s get right to it…

In Hoosier Homemade fashion…The Lorax, Bar-ba-loots and Truffula Trees are easy to create with some patience and a few supplies. Let’s start with the Truffula Trees…

Truffula Tree Cupcakes

  • Cupcakes, baked and cooled
  • Frosting in pink, orange, yellow {I use Wilton Decorator Icing}
  • Sanding sugar
  • Offset spatula to swirl frosting
  • For the display…the tree trunks are caramel apple sticks, colored with a brown marker
Directions:
  1. Add a good amount of frosting to each cupcake, swirl with the offset spatula
  2. For the spike edges, touch the spatula onto the frosting and pull away
  3. Sprinkle with sanding sugar

The Truffula Trees are so fun! They could also be used for a birthday party or other celebration.

Bar-ba-Loots Cupcakes

  • Cupcakes, baked and cooled
  • Chocolate frosting, canned – it works best for melting
  • Eyes – White Smarties candy
  • Nose – Mini brown M&M
  • Ears – Wilton candy melts or other round, flat candy
  • Small amount of melted chocolate to secure the ears
  • Mouth & eyebrows – Black frosting in the Decorator bag fitted with a #2 tip

Directions:

  1. With a knife, make a small slit in the cupcake where the ears will be
  2. Melt a small amount of chocolate and dip the candy melt {or other candy} into the chocolate and gently push into the opening
  3. Place in freezer for about 10 minutes
  4. Add chocolate frosting to a microwave safe bowl {amount will depend on how many cupcakes you are making}
  5. Melt frosting about 20 seconds – you want it pretty runny
  6. Remove cupcake from the freezer – work with only 1 at a time, and leave the others in the freezer – turn the cupcake upside down and dip into the melted frosting. You may need to add more frosting with a spoon
  7. Add the mini M&M for the nose
  8. Using the black frosting, add a small dot on the eyes {you can also use a Food Writer for this}
  9. Add eyes to cupcake
  10. Place in fridge to set up, about 10 minutes
  11. Add the eyebrows and mouth with black frosting

The Bar-ba-loots Bears are so cute you may not want to eat them! I’m sure your kiddos will though.

The Lorax Cupcakes

Since these little guys are a bit more involved, I’m saving them for Cupcake Chronicles Newsletter. Watch for them on Thursday afternoon, I’ll send out the newsletter a bit early this week, since The Lorax opens on Friday and I KNOW you will want to bake up a batch for the celebration.

Cupcake Chronicles Newsletter has exclusive recipes and cupcake designs, if you are NOT a subscriber, read all about it! AND, if you are a new subscriber, after Friday {3/2}, leave me a comment and I’ll happily send the newsletter with The Lorax Cupcakes to you.

What fun! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

I’m excited for the movie! Are you planning to see The Lorax?
