Summer Decorating
I know it seems a little early to start our Summer Decorating, but I got so busy that the Hoosier Cabinet never got decorated for Spring. So I gathered up my scrapbook paper and looked over the colors for inspiration. I was planning on using the Lifestyle Crafts Fancy Envelope Tabs Die Cuts to make a banner, and then spotted the red,white and blue paper and quickly decided a Summer Theme would be perfect.
We have started to prepare the house for Nick’s graduation party, so every little bit that I can get done now will help later.
Bringing in all the elements that we love about Summer, I added items for a Picnic, roasting S’Mores and Baseball. A large part of our Summer is spent at the ball park and Nick’s graduation party will be a Baseball Theme {more on that soon}, so the Baseball Mitt was a perfect addition.
On the top, I added an Antique Metal Picnic Basket, a flag that belonged to my great-grandfather, Aqua Mason Jars and a pitcher filled with ivy cut from the yard and a few red,white and blue items to add some color.
On the middle shelf, I added a very old Colonial Banner and the Baseball Mitt.
More of my favorite…Aqua Mason Jars were added to the next shelf, a slice of watermelon, some Chocolate Kisses and Summer spelled out with Scrabble Tiles..fun!
Then came the goodies for a picnic and our favorite…S’Mores! The giant marshmallows in the jar, graham crackers, chocolate bars and the marshmallow roasting sticks. A Vintage Gingham Check Apron and a glass pitcher filled with red and blue straws and more Scrabble Tiles spelling Picnic completed the shelf.
And now…this adorable and SUPER easy Summer Flag Banner…
Summer Banner Supplies:
- Scrapbook paper in your favorite colors
- String or twine {I bought this from Pick Your Plum}
- Glue {I like the Elmer’s Dot Runner the best}
- Lifestyle Crafts Fancy Envelope Tabs
- Cut out the tags and mark the middle where the string will lay
- Add glue to one edge
- Place on string and fold over, press to seal the edges
- Hang and enjoy!
I hope my Hoosier Cabinet inspires you to start your Summer Decorating, and of course, if you don’t have a Hoosier…you can certainly use these ideas to decorate your Mantel or other spot in your home.

I’m missing my old cabinet! It was really a very old decrepit hutch but was fun to decorate anyway. Just no room for it in this tiny house. 🙁 So, I enjoy watching yours evolve over the seasons!
Just beautiful! Love Summer and you inspire me to dig out & decorate! Thanks!
I have always wanted one of those cabinets but I have never had a home that I could use one in 🙁 I love how you decorated it tho. So many little details and I am sure I can find a few ideas to incorporate into my own summer decor 😉
Thanks Tammy! I love it too 🙂
Happy Decorating!
I love it!!! you are making me think what I am going to decorate now!!!
Love your hoosier cabinet and how you have it decorated for summer. That green plaid picnic tin caught my eye right away. Love it.

This is adorable! I have an old hooier-style cabinet that my grandpa made probably around 1920. It’s so jam-packed with dishes and bowls (all of which are really pretty cool) I don’t think I could do this exactly but it sure has given me a few ideas! Thanks for the great pics!
So excited you like it! Thanks for stopping by!
