Susan Branch is my all time favorite author. Whether she is sharing a great recipe or a cute craft, her whimsical style is such a pleasure to read. I have several of her books and I especially enjoy pouring over the Christmas books that I have, this time of year.

Back in October (I think it was) I was lucky enough to win a copy of her Autumn book from FishMama at Life As Mom.

While there are tons of recipes that I have marked to try, today I’d like to share with you the Farmhouse Biscuits that my youngest son, Casey and I made. These biscuits were a little bite of heaven.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 c. Flour
  • 2 1/2 t. Baking Powder
  • 1/2 t. Baking Soda
  • 1/2 t. Salt
  • 1 c. Sour Cream

Directions:

Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Grease (butter) a baking sheet and flour a work surface. Combine first 4 ingredients. Mix in the sour cream with your fingers just until blended. (this step was very messy, but well worth it)

Pat dough out to 1/2 inch thick and cut with a round cookie cutter.

Casey helped cut the biscuits out.

Bake for 10 – 12 minutes or until golden brown

In the book Susan suggests spreading her Bee Butter on the biscuits, or serving them as Turkey Sandwiches with gravy. I served mine with my Apple Butter. And here’s a little peak for you of her wonderful work.

Isn’t her work just great? I’m looking forward to sharing the Christmas books with you too.

Notes: Please excuse the differences in photos, the biscuits were made before I started using my new camera. Susan Branch did not pay me or provide me with any product to write this post.

These look so easy and sound so good–I may have to mix some up myself and surprise my honey–he just remarked this week about how long it had been since I made homemade biscuits.

I love a good biscuit, and these definitely look *good*!!

I’ve never made a biscuit with sour cream. I bet the sour cream makes them light and fluffy like buttermilk does.

    Yum!
