Office Makeover: The Painting

By September 9, 2011Decorating, DIY Projects, Fix It

Sometimes the best laid plans hit a speed bump. That’s what happened to us when we started painting the office this week. Remember we talked about our color choices? Thanks to all of you for your help!

Here are a few before pictures to remind you where we started…

Tiny Speed Bump…We decided to use Glidden Brilliance Paint in Classic Key Lime, but only after we tried Pistachio Ice Cream {in paint, not the yummy treat}. The Pistachio looked pretty on the paint swatch, but after we got it on the wall, it was just too bright. We were thrilled when Walmart exchanged the Glidden Paint for us, and we love the Classic Key Lime.

BIG Speed Bump…Even though the Glidden Brilliance Paint has a sealer built in, Doug thought we should seal the wall because of the very dark burnt orange paint. He started adding the sealer, and quickly discovered that the person who painted the walls had used stain {he thinks} to glaze the entire wall, as well as for the stenciled words at the top. The stain started bleeding through the sealer and dripping down the wall.

Doug made a phone call to Glidden as well as the sealer company, although neither were a ton of help, he did learn a couple things. Seal…sand…seal…paint

So he gave that a try…not much luck. In the beginning, I had suggested he try vinegar and water to wash the walls, mostly because it seemed like there was a film on the wall.

You can see how the vinegar and water solution was taking the words right off the wall. Doug used about 50/50 vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle and a rag.

After we finally figured out what to do with the stained walls, everything else was a breeze.

And my organized shelves…LOVE these!

Don’t you love the color? Doug has used a LOT of different brands of paint, he says “the Glidden Brilliance Paint is the BEST paint he has used and covers the best.” And honestly…we just aren’t saying that…he REALLY thinks so!

Now what???

Well, we have lots of cool projects planned, and we will be sharing those pretty soon. A fun blackboard/bulletin board command center and a new desk! I can hardly wait!!

Take a peek and check out our shopping process for the Glidden Brilliance Paint at Walmart!
