With just a few simple supplies you can create this Indoor Herb Planter. Use it on your table for a centerpiece, then bring it into the kitchen and use the herbs for cooking!

I started with a trip to Walmart to gather my supplies! It is nice that they have a garden center and a market with cute centerpiece ideas like my galvanized bucket– this one is actually a drink stand turned upside down.

To create the planter you can use any container that you like- a long trough for a long table or a round bucket for a round one- lots of options! Then I grabbed a few pots that would fit down inside, potting soil and my herbs. I chose to use rosemary, lavender, chives and kale, but you can pick whatever herbs you use in the kitchen- mint, thyme, oregano, basil- they all would work great.

Planting Herbs

Add some potting mix into your pots and place your plants inside. Very carefully loosen the roots- make sure you have enough soil so the plant fits correctly in the pot.

You will probably have a ton of potting soil leftover- if you are looking for a big gardening project to use it up, try our wooden pallet compost bin. I never thought a compost bin would be my favorite part of our garden

Finally, fit the pots down into your bucket and fill with a filler. I used bigger rocks, just so that everything didn’t move around. If your pots fit snuggly, you may not have to add these.

And voila! A beautiful outdoor centerpiece that is also the perfect indoor herb garden! You can also remove the pots and put them on a window sill in your kitchen if you feel like they need more sunlight. Most herbs are great beginner plants- just make sure to water them.
