It’s been awhile since I shared our mantel decor with you. After decorating our Farmhouse Bedroom, I was inspired to begin decorating other areas in our home. The mantel area is my favorite spot to decorate, especially when I get to add some fun 4th of July decorations.

While I absolutely love the 4th of July holiday, this time around I wanted to keep the mantel decor a little more for Summer, but still pull in the red, white and blue color theme.

The mantel is really massive, taking up a whole wall in the Living Room. I have struggled with all the white wood, and trying to add a pop of color since it’s so big, but I have learned to embrace how gorgeous it is.

Wooden Flag for Farmhouse Mantel Decor

I started with the wooden flag as the focus. I had originally planned on hanging the flag, but it turned out to be too heavy for a command hook and since it was not going to be permanent, I didn’t want to add a nail to the mantel. Learn how to make the wooden flag.

So I opted to set the flag on a piece of wood to raise it up a bit. Then covered it with ivory colored burlap material that I had in my stash.

Working on one side of the mantel at a time, I added the Vintage Lanterns and Aqua Mason Jars, setting them on top of old books. The fresh hydrangeas are finally blooming in the yard, I couldn’t wait to bring them inside.

One of the things I love to do best is shop the house for decorations. The only new items on the Farmhouse Mantel are the wooden flag that Doug built and the wooden stars.

While decorating, it often takes me a few tries to get it the way I want (like this time). The best way I have found is to think outside the box. Look at the items you have in your home a little different. It’s like shopping for a certain color of shirt, maybe you need a purple shirt to wear with a white skirt for a special event. When you head into the store, you know you need purple, so you put your blinders on and look for purple.

Decorating your home can be the same way – I begin with a color that I want, for the Farmhouse Mantel Decor, I was looking for white, off white, red and blue, those were the only colors I focused on. The vintage lanterns are often my go-to decoration, I love the way they look, while mixing the old vintage style with the modern.

And of course, the aqua mason jars are a favorite too. The books, well – they were just a shade of red and worked well to place items at different levels.

The other side of the mantel has wooden stars that I found at Hobby Lobby and Doug painted with the same colors of spray paint that he used on the flag. Then I pulled in some white pitchers to add the farmhouse feel.

Again, thinking outside the box, looking around at what I have, I spotted the white pitchers. The small cake stand worked great to raise the large pitcher up and the grapevine wreath divides the white colors up a bit. I took the cake stand from my kitchen sink area and the grapevine wreath was snatched from the new farmhouse bedroom.

I drive Doug crazy with the way I move things around all the time. But I figure, why let your home be too boring, love it and use the pieces you have.

Hydrangeas

I look forward to the hydrangeas blooming every year. We are working on the backyard makeover right now, and will definitely be planting more. I have often dried them and used them in my Fall Decorating as well.

  1. Where are the stars from?

    1. I believe we bought them at Hobby Lobby, or Michael’s. I’m sure either craft store should have them.
