Summer Fun
With the boys getting out of school this week, I decided we needed to put together a plan for the summer. I was inspired by Amy at MomAdvice and her Notebook Experiment and also Kristen, at We Are THAT Family is hosting Works For Me Wednesday today and the theme is “Mom, I’m Bored.”
For the last several summers, we have been so super busy with sports, work, and life, that we haven’t really spent much time just having fun. I really want this summer to be different, and this year, I have a great excuse ~ my blog! Where I can post about fun things we do, frugal trips to make and family time.
On our list, I decided to break it down into 4 sections.
Free ~ Small Cost $10-$20 ~ Minimum Cost $20-$30 ~ Large Cost $100

Our list includes…
Free Summer Fun
~Go to the Beach
~Go to the Park
~Make Homemade Pizza
~Take a Picnic
~Movie Marathon
~Go to the Library
~Cruise Nite (Our town hosts this on June 13th)
~Make S’Mores
~Sleepover/Camp out (in the Living Room)
~Ice Cream Sundae Night
~Water Gun Fight
~Make Milkshakes
~Movies (our town has Free movies downtown)
~Have a friend over to play
Small Cost Summer Fun $10-$20
~Go to the movies

~Walk uptown and get Ice Cream
~Go to Drive-In Movies
~Date Night with Mom (each boy chooses where they would like to go)
Minimum Cost Summer Fun $20-$30

~Silverhawks Baseball (Minor league team about 45 min. away)

Large Cost Summer Fun $100

I was very excited that we came up with a longer list of Free things to do, than any of the other lists. Of course, these are just ideas and I don’t plan on doing all of them, except for the Free things.

We still take total advantage of the free list because our boys are so young! I’m hoping to stay in that category for a couple of more years before they REALLY get bored! Great post!

We were just discussing the idea of going to Indiana Beach on a weekday. Thanks for the reminder!

Great list – I wish I could put Go To The Beach on my free list!

I love how you broke it all down.
I wish the beach was close for us, too. We have lakes though.

What a great list, and good way to divide it up! I’m with the others, we’d be at the beach alot if one were close! We’ll be borrowing the ice cream sundae night for sure! I wish I could go to a cruise night….wonder if it’s something that could be redone at home? I’ll have to ponder how to pull that off! Sounds like a fun summer ahead for you!

That might be pretty cool. Have a neighborhood bike cruise night, maybe! Thanks for visiting!

I’m not sure where you live in Indiana, but a trip to the caves in south central Indiana is one of our favorites! The boys love the coolness (both ways!) of the tours. We haven’t hit the beach yet. But I would love to do that this summer!

I like the idea of having different cost categories. I’d like to try this for my kids earning rewards.

What a fun list and I like how you divided it by cost. We are working through our list already and have already done at least half a dozen things. It is such a fun thing to do with the little ones.
Thank you so much for participating in the Notebook Experiments! I really appreciate it!

What a great idea! I think we’ll sit down Friday morning (first day of summer for us!) and make our list. I’m not sure I can put the beach on our free list, though. It’s a 2+ hour drive! It would be in the small $$ list, as long as gas doesn’t keep going up!

You have some great ideas! You seem to have some fantastic options based on where you live. Mall of America?! I’m so jealous!

If only other webmasters would do what you have done and build a really worthwhile site on the subject. Most of them load the pages with junk, but this is exactly what I was looking for – Hoosier Homemade » Summer Fun. Thank you from a very grateful Carrie Mason
