Remodeling our Bath with Home Depot: Step 1

A couple weeks ago I told you about remodeling our bath with Home Depot…well we went shopping for our supplies. I’m so excited to get started on it.

I also held a giveaway for a $100 Home Depot Gift Card, and the winner is…Katydid says I like Its a blog party facebook page. She has been notified.

Now…on with the bathroom. Here are the products we bought…

When Doug and I went to the Home Depot for the Renew and Redo Event, we were a bit overwhelmed at first. In fact, after about 30 minutes we decided to just look around, go home, talk it over and go back to shop. Well, the more we walked around and the more we talked about what we wanted, the more clear it became. We ended up spending 2 hours there, but bought just about everything we needed.

We were also very impressed with the customer service. I know we are probably “old school,” but it sure is nice to go into a store where the employees are really friendly and VERY helpful. We had LOTS of questions, and when the employee that was helping us couldn’t answer our question about our shower, he went and found the plumbing specialist to help us.

We ended up deciding it was going to be WAY too much money to fix everything we want to, so we decided to just change the shower head for now. And we bought a shower curtain and rod to hang in front of the glass door enclosure to kind of hide it. The walls have ceramic tile, which I like, it makes for easy clean up, but it’s difficult to remodel anything with out totally cutting into the tile.

  1. Paint…We bought Glidden in Antique Silver for the ceiling and trim and Rust-Oleum Metallic for the ceiling light and fan
  2. Faucet and Towel racks…Edgewood 3 piece Bath Accessory Kit came with Towel Ring and Bar and Toilet Paper Holder {we bought 2 sets} and a matching Edgewood Bath Faucet. And a glass shelf too.
  3. Shower…The Shower Head is a Waterpik Medallion, Luxury Shower Rod and a Zenith Shower Curtain in white.
  4. Accessories…We found a fluffy rug in a burgundy color and a runner to put down in front of the shower. I’m excited about the splash of color this will add. We also desperately needed a new baseboard vent as you can see from the pictures below.

How are we going to use all these great products? Let me show you…

We will paint the ceiling and trim in the Antique Silver. I’m not sure you can see the spots on the ceiling, but it’s in desperate need of painting and obliviously the back of the door needs a good scraping and painting as well. For the ceiling light, we bought some Rust-Oleum and will try to paint it, a replacement light is around $60, so we will try the frugal way first.

The Baseboard Vent will get replaced, as well as the gold faucet. We also bought a new glass shelf with brushed nickel finish.

The Glass Shower Door and all the fixtures are in gold, so we will replace as many of the fixtures that we can in brushed nickel finish.  We will add the shower rod and curtain in front of the shower door, a much more frugal way instead of spending $400+ to replace the door. The shower head will get replaced with the Waterpik Medallion. With the help of the plumbing specialist, we figured it would be around $800 to totally change the faucet handles in the shower as well.

Did you know that you could paint some of that gold? I did it! I used hammered silver, but you can find brushed nickel, or many varieties of silver. The gold finishes I changed look fantastic. My sister just changed out her old gold light fixtures by painting them flat black. They look like wrought iron now! Just make sure to prepare your surfaces properly and allow an extra ample time to dry before putting everything back together.
