Organizing Recipes

I don’t know about you, but I have hundreds of recipes that I have printed or made copies of.  Recently I decided they really needed to be organized.

So, the first thing I did was to divide them into catergories.  A couple years ago my husband bought me this binder for Christmas, it came with lots of dividers.  I divided the recipes into those categories first, main dishes, appetizers, soups and salads, desserts, and miscellaneous, then I added a few of my own that weren’t in the binder, holidays, try and my Meals for a Month calendars.

Then I punched holes in them and put them in the binder. This is what I ended up with.

I’m sure it will cut down on my time when I need to find a recipe.

  1. Good ideas! Thanks.
The hard part for me is letting go of any recipes I’ve collected over the years. But my several collections of recipes (ring binders; big envelopes; stacks of papers next to my cookbooks; on my computer) really are turning into clutter and are not usable.
I like your idea of simply sorting into categories first. Maybe then I can de-clutter each category and get rid of duplicates and of the “what was I thinking” recipes.

  2. I have a recipe binder too, which I love. It used to be organized once, but is now hopelessly jumbled. Perfect project for a rainy day. The other difference is that I put my recipes into sheet protectors. It makes the pages sturdier, and when you pull them out to make a recipe and spatter something all over the page, it wipes clean.

    Great tip!

  3. I am so going to do this. I have been wanting to organize my recipes better. The recipe box that I have I don’t like the way they categorize things so I am always overlooking recipes.
    Thanks for this tidbit!

  4. I soooooooo need to organize my recipes like this.. i have recipes in a magnet clip hanging on the side of my fridge right now lol.. and it is so heavy that it is very near the bottom.. and then i have binders all over with recipes in them…

    1. LOL, I know the feeling, just not enough time in the day to organize too. Thanks for visiting!

  5. Hi! Had to stop in as a fellow Hoosier 🙂 I love this idea, and did something similar myself recently! It really helps avoid the last-minute looking thru “the pile” of recipes that I always seem to accumulate!

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you visit often!
