Halloween Party on a Budget

Jump to recipe!

Hosting a Halloween Party can be lots of fun! Whether you are having a few close friends or the whole neighborhood. Sometimes the things I conjure up makes Doug just shake his head at me and say, well I guess we should put our heads together and figure out how to make it happen. It can be expensive, but with a little planning and creative thinking you can host a party on a budget.

We dug through our Halloween decorations and put them all together with some spooky supplies we found at Walmart to send this party over the top.

Your party can’t be complete without guests, so you will need some invitations. I created these fun Candy Corn Cones that your guests fill with treats and bring to the party to share. Be sure to stop back on Wednesday for the full instructions!

So that you can get a jump on buying your materials, I did want to tell you about the exciting new section at Walmart, I think I actually squealed right out loud! Doug and my youngest were with me and I think they thought I was crazy. We were in the Party Section looking for plates, napkins, etc and came across a whole section of Halloween scrapbook paper, stickers, ribbon, glitter and TONS of fun crafting supplies…and hold onto your seat my friends…$.97 cents each!! Yep…scrapbook paper in packs of 6 different designs, the cute ribbon I used for the handle and the chipboard stickers too! I made the candy corn out of cardstock {from the office supplies section} that comes in a pack with 4 colors.

And in case you are looking for Birthday Party supplies, they have a TON of those too!

Now let’s dress the table…

As I mentioned, we were in the Party Section at Walmart, and we found lots to choose from. And yes, you guessed it…tablecloth, plates, napkins, silverware…all $.97 each. Let’s take a closer look…

We added some cheesecloth to the top of the table, you can find that in the Craft Department. And speaking of fabric, did you know that Walmart is bringing back the Fabric Department in many of their stores? I’m super excited about that!

The Witch Shoe Party Favors are made with black construction paper, scrapbook paper and more of the cute embellishments that I found in the Party Section for only $.97 cents! I will be sharing the instructions on those later this week too!

And see those adorable Drink Flags? Those are part of the Halloween Printables Set that I will share in Cupcake Chronicles Newsletter on Friday. Not a subscriber? Please join us!

I think the Slime Glasses look so cool! I found the goblets in the Housewares Department, they were $.97 cents also and they are glass, that’s a deal! I love how they turned out for the picture, but I have to tell you, honestly, I don’t think you could drink from them. If you want to create some though, I used corn syrup with a drop of green coloring mixed in. Chill the goblets in the freezer, then dip the rim in the corn syrup mixture, quickly place them back in the freezer so the corn syrup stops dripping and gets hard.

When they are first removed from the freezer they look great, but after sitting on the table for about 15 minutes, the corn syrup started to get soft and drip. Now, I will have to admit, I might have done something wrong, but I followed the directions in the Taste of Home Halloween Book. If you know of another trick, please let me know.

For the centerpiece, we made Potion Bottles and in the middle are some plastic skulls and bones mixed with spiders and spider webs.

We made the Ghost with the extra cheesecloth from the table and just draped it over a small kick ball {from the garage} and tied the neck with string. Doug drew his face on with a Sharpie and we hung him with plastic thread from the tree. The Spider was left from last year’s Halloween Mantel.

We bought 4 large pumpkins and 2 smaller white pumpkins, Doug and Andrew had a good time carving them for me. They were just under $4 for each of the pumpkins.

On the chair we sat some more take home treats with the Halloween Treat Bag Toppers!

On the Dessert Table, we have cupcakes with the adorable toppers from Charlotte at The Paper Cupcake! She created the Cupcake Toppers, Treat Bag Toppers and Drink Flags for Cupcake Chronicles! I can hardly wait to share them on Friday for our 1 Year Anniversary!!

The plates are from the $.97 cent section and the spooky tree was also only $.97 cents, I found it in the Halloween Section.

Another cool shot of the toppers, and I tied a little ribbon {yes from the $.97 cent section} to the stick…SO CUTE!

Greeting the guests is this black cat, from the Halloween Section. I just took a piece of the cardstock that I had leftover from the Candy Corn Cones and wrote…”Beware Enter At Your Own Risk” and VERY carefully burned the edge to make it look spooky, then glued it onto the cat. Oh and yes…the cat was $.97 cents.

Are you seeing a trend here with $.97 cent goodness?

So be sure to stop back every day this week…here’s what you can look forward to…
