Frugal Family Fun
On 4th of July, the weather was not too good, to say the least. It rained and was 65 degrees. We did go to the parade, but spent the entire day at home inside, we did make it to the fireworks in the evening, in the rain.
While trying to decide what to do, we got out our Summer Fun List, it was pretty easy to chose, and we opted to take the afternoon and hit the beach.
We are lucky enough to live only about 15-20 minutes away from Lake Michigan. The two oldest boys weren’t with us, so we let Casey invite a friend, which made it much easier on Doug and I.

This is the view from the top of the bridge.

Casey running down the sand dune.

The water was really cold, I only went in up to my knees.

We had fun building a sand castle.

Even thought we stopped at the Dollar Store for toys on our way, and spent $4, it was still a pretty frugal trip.

How fun! The best we could do in Kansas is a lake. We should do that!

Glad that you found someplace warm and dry to spend a few hours and so cheaply– even better!

Looks like you had a lovely day.
It is so smart to have a list of things grouped by cost. Ours is just a plain old list, and that never works quite as well. I think we’ll switch our list around.

I love the beach and Lake Michigan is so nice – I’m from the east coast and so I really appreciate a beach with no salt and no jelly fish!
It is my dream to live close to the water! We like to camp up at the dunes.
