DIY Magnetic Mouse Trap Clips

Jump to recipe!

Often times, we can put together a craft with little to no trouble. Thankfully, Doug is willing to help me figure out the crazy projects that I see and want to duplicate. About a month ago, while spending a Saturday browsing around a Farmer’s Market {which also had craft booths} in a nearby town, we happened to spot some pretty cool looking decorated mouse traps.

Our first thought…those would be super easy to make and share with our readers. So the next week, we headed to the store, and grabbed some supplies. And well…we tried several different ways to duplicate the mouse traps we had seen, but we just couldn’t get them to work. But I’m excited to tell you…that we kept on trying and figured out a good {and relatively easy} way to make the Magnetic Mouse Trap Clips.

Because of course…we all need to be better organized and with all those school papers already starting to pile up, I know you are looking for a new way to keep them all organized.

With a little scrapbook paper, Mod Podge and some embellishments the Magnetic Mouse Trap Clips were completed!

Let’s start by preparing the Mouse Trap…

DIY Magnetic Mouse Trap Clips

  1. Remove some of the hardware from the trap with a pair of Needle Nose Pliers, leaving the spring on {Note: we tried removing the spring and replacing it, and found it was just too difficult}
  2. These are the pieces that you need to remove
  3. Cut a piece of scrapbook paper in a rectangle to fit the trap exactly. Then cut into 2 pieces, to fit around the spring
  4. Using Mod Podge, add the scrapbook to the trap {we used Antique Matte}
  5. Cut a piece of magnet, we found magnetic sheet at Walmart, it has a sticky back on it so applying it was super easy

Now it’s time to decorate, here is what we used…

  • Mod Podge Antique Matte and the handy application bottle
  • Paper from Mod Podge
  • Rub on words from Mod Podge
  • Repositionable glue from Mod Podge
  • 3D Adhesive Mounts from Mod Podge
  • Buttons, Mini Clothespins, Locks, Keys
  • Cupcake punch
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Hot Glue Gun {not shown}

Place the decorations on, to get an idea of how you want the Mouse Trap Clip to look, then apply glue and decorate as you like.

The Magnetic Mouse Trap Clips are perfect to keep papers and reminder notes organized on the Wipe-off Board in my office.

You can find Mod Podge products at Walmart, most craft stores or online. Mod Podge products are available from Plaid Crafts, visit their blog for more fun ideas!

Disclosure: I received some Mod Podge products to try. As always, the opinions are all my own.
