Crockpot Oatmeal with Fruit

Most of the time, we use our crock-pots to make dinner, but using a crockpot or slow cooker for breakfast makes the morning rush much easier.

I like oatmeal, especially with fruit and raisins, and usually eat some every morning. I’ll have to admit though, my family doesn’t share my love for oatmeal.  So I usually have it during the week when I’m not cooking a big breakfast for them.

This oatmeal has apples, cinnamon and raisins, but it’s easy enough to change the ingredients to suit your taste.

Crockpot Oatmeal with Fruit

Cook Time: 8 hours
Total Time: 8 hours

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Cold Water
  • 1 Apple, cored, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch chunks
  • 1 1/2 cups Old Fashion Oatmeal (not quick cooking)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 cup Raisins

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in the crockpot before going to bed.
  2. Cook on low overnight, 8-10 hours.
  3. Serve with milk.

Note: The directions that I found at cd kitchen, did not say to spray the crock pot with cooking spray, next time I will definitely do this. Also, the raisins were a little mushy, I would maybe add them a little later, or when you get up, maybe an hour before you eat. You could also boil them on the stove for a couple minutes and then just stir them in.

  1. this sounds like a fabulous idea! i’m curious, tho: i’ve really taken a liking to steel-cut oats lately, which take about 30-45 minutes to cook on the stovetop. do you think those would work as well as old-fashioned oats, here? my gut instinct is that it would be fine, but i thought i’d check and see if anyone knows for sure, before i try it out. 🙂

  3. Liz, I just discovered your blog last week and am a fellow Hoosier. My standby breakfast is old fashioned oatmeal, cooked on top of the stove. I use a tiny bit of brown sugar, cinnamon, and add one tablespoon creamy peanut butter, and if I have any nuts, just a few sprinkled on top. It’s like dessert to me. The idea for the peanut butter came from a WW meeting years ago. I am enjoying your blog!

      1. @CupcakeLady, From Indy. Grew up in northern IN. Did you end up trying PB in oatmeal? Just curious what you thought about it, if you did.

        1. @Teena, Yes, actually I’ve been adding it the last couple mornings. It makes the oatmeal very creamy, and I think it probably gives at least a little boost in protein. Thanks for giving me the tip!

  5. Looks yummy. I am a recent oatmeal convert myself and I don’t know how the deliciousness that is oatmeal escaped me for 20+ years. I may cut the recipe in half and cook it in my little slow cooker because I think that would be a bit much for just me.

  6. This looks so easy and very cosy on a day when it’s just hard to get out of bed!

    Do you think it would work okay with milk in as well as/instead of the water? I like the creamier taste of milky porridge (or oatmeal, us Scots are just difficult!)
