This past weekend, Doug and two of the boys went to visit my Father-in-law, leaving me home, ALONE, (for most of the time) for 28 hrs!

I highly considered, soaking my feet, doing my nails, eating bon bons and watching Food Network…but, alas, that didn’t happen. What did I do?

Well, like any crazy blogger does! Clean and re-decorate so that I can share with my readers!

A few months back, I shared with you the Antique Horse that I found in the basement, I went searching again and found this cute little chair and these old shutters.

I love the charm that little chairs have, I shared the chair on our front porch for Spring and Summer. They fill up any bare corner, and add a bit of whimsy as well.

I started with a clean slate…

I love the Hydrangeas on the wallpaper and had a 4 foot tree with dried hydrangeas on it for quite awhile. It was time for a change though.

I added the shutter in the corner, placed a plant stand with a tablecloth and a little lamp in front of it. And then on the chair, I stacked some books, a little wooden box and added a little watering can with fresh ivy from the yard.

I love the pop of color, but not too shocking, that the watering can gives.

There were a whole stack of shutters, so I grabbed another one and hung it on the wall in the Living Room.

After seeing this idea on one of my favorite blogs, Miss Mustard Seed, I knew just what I wanted to do. I simply hung the shutter and added a grapvine wreath. I like how it fills up the length of the wall.

Remember the horse I mentioned earlier? There he is! Don’t you just love him? He is my favorite, although, I think I have a new favorite…not far behind

And yes…I found it in the basement too! The people that own our home left lots of great treasurers, that I am now enjoying.

Even better…I spent nothing..nada…zero on my re-decorating weekend!

Don’t miss out of the Froggy Hunt! Hop on over and grab all the details on how to WIN some great prizes! Hurry! Giveaways close on Thursday, the 29th at 10 p.m. CST!

This Pinwheel Garland was such fun to create! I can’t take credit for the idea though, Leanne, the Craft Queen from Organize and Decorate Everything came up with this cute idea! I first spied her Patriotic Garland when she linked up to my Fourth of July Party over at It’s A Blog Party. She has such great ideas, you NEED to check out her blog.

When I spotted the Pinwheel Garland, I already had all my Fourth of July decorating done. The wheels started turning, and I thought it would be fun to still do the Garland, but use bright colors for Summertime.

Here is how I created this fun little Pinwheel Garland…

Cut squares of scrapbook paper, 4 1/2 inches x 4 1/2 inches

Because my paper was not double sided, I glued 2 coordinating papers together, and laid them out to dry

Then I trimmed the edges so there was no white showing

This is how the Pinwheel looked with just white for the opposite side

I did have 1 piece of paper that was printed on both sides, which made it a little quicker and easier to create the Pinwheel, but most of the paper I found at Hobby Lobby was not printed on both sides

Then I connected each corner, drawing a line with a pencil

Using a small pair of sharp scissors and a cutting board, I poked holes in each corner and the middle, you could also use a very small hole punch, like Leanne did, but I didn’t have one. Then cut along the lines, being sure to leave about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the center point, not cut.

Put a brad into one corner

Feed all corners onto the brad

And then thru the middle hole

To assemble the Garland, I used twine and small clothespins that I found in the Office Supply department at Walmart, they were $1.88 for a box of 12. This picture also shows the brads that I found at Hobby Lobby, they were $3 for 100 and I used a 40% off coupon.

Then I laid them out of the floor to make sure I liked the color combinations

The ideas for these Pinwheels is endless. I used my Pinwheel Garland on my Summer Mantle.

I had such a fun time creating this Garland. And for less then $5, I think it makes a BIG statement.

So, tell me, how do you cut back on expenses so that you can do extra projects like this? I’m learning how to use this new system I just found, Mint.com, have you heard of it?

You can sign up for FREE! Here is what they have to say…

Mint is fresh, free, and intelligent online money management software. Over 1 million people already use Mint’s online money management and budgeting software today, and they’re adding over 3,000 users every day. Mint.com is tracking $175 billion in transactions, $47 billion in assets and has identified more than $300 million in potential savings for its users.

Well, I’m back again, changing my Mantle. This time I Decorated for Summer. I know, Summer is half over, but first I had my Memorial Day Mantle, then the Celebration Mantle for Andrew’s graduation and of course, the 4th of July Mantle. So, I’m just now changing it for Summer.

The Mantle is not the only place in the house that’s enjoying Summer. My Hoosier cabinet got a little Summer makeover too!

Once again, I’ve created a tutorial with a collage of pictures for you.

I made this super cute pinwheel garland (look for directions on Wednesday)

At one end I added a plastic sand pail

And for balance, on the other end, 3 Aqua Mason Jars (my fave)

I filled them with ivy and ornamental grass from the yard

A bug catcher and jar of bubbles adds more whimsy

And a Hawaiian lei to add even more color and texture

At the other end, a Summer picture frame with a cute picture of Andrew when he was a toddler and a bright green Ice Cream glass

A fun candle and pink placemat add more color

And finally a pineapple candle holder and a Flip Flop bowl filled with squirt guns

Update: I posted the Pinwheel Garland Tutorial for you.

Remember to stop back on Wednesday to learn how I made the Pinwheel Garland.

What fun things are you doing this summer? Let’s share in my Blog Frog Community or on Facebook!
