Baking 101: Tools

Jump to recipe!

Welcome to our first week of the Baking 101 series. I plan to share with you the tools, tips and tricks that I use, along with recipes, measuring, ingredients and all of the other great things about baking.

I need to tell you first…I’m NOT a professional…I have never been to school, nor even taken any classes on baking. I’m just a Mom and Wife that loves to bake.

Some of the ideas I share may not be of interest to you, but I’m sure there will be something along the way that will help.

We are starting the series, from the beginning. What do you need before you start baking?? Tools!

I use lots of different pans, measuring cups, spoons, spatulas, etc.

I have many more baking tools, but these are the ones I use most of the time. My favorite? My mixer…I couldn’t live without it.

What is your favorite Baking Tool?

Each week I will be sharing some of my favorites. These are just a few of my favorite tools. They are affiliate links. I would love for you to look at them, but most importantly, I just want to share with you my favorites.

Feel free to leave a comment with your baking questions. I have a long list of things to share with you, and will try to answer your questions.

  1. My PC mini loaf stone is sitting dusty in the cabinet. I don’t like baking, and what I have made in it sticks like crazy. I bought it used, so it’s well seasoned already. Any ideas? (And email would be a better place to answer just because I’m not likely to ever find your blog again, you know how it is when you stumble on someone’s blog!!)

    1. Hi Tara, I usually spray the bread pan a bit with non-stick spray. I know you aren’t suppose to, but I do and don’t have any trouble with it.

  2. My favorite kitchen tool is my Kitchen Aid mixer which I have had since the early 60s. You can’t beat it! It will handle the thickest doughs and frostings. It also comes with many useful attachments. My kids, who now have homes of their own, also swear by their Kitchen Aid mixers.

  3. I am not sure which one is my favorite. I have so many, but my Kitchen Aide mixer is at the top of my list. I also have many Pampered Chef products that are my favorite too. I sell Pampered Chef, so I try to get as many products as I can.

    1. That’s great to know that you sell PC Lisa…I might just have to give you a shout sometime 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by!

  4. My favorite tools: (and maybe you can add a short “How to post a picture or link here”) are my ‘Stiff Spatulas.’ I’m not sure what else to call them. They’re fantastic! Try one and you’ll never go back to an ordinary spatula. =)

Thanks so much Liz for sharing all your wonderful treats and ideas! Especially this “Basic Tools.” =)

  5. Without a doubt my favorite (or at least my most used) kitchen tool is my Kitchen Aid hand mixer. This little appliance does some serious work! I have the stand mixer as well, but I use the hand mixer much more often.
I also LOVE wooden spoons…its like a little fetish of mine…I have about 30…is that weird? LOL

  6. I LOVE my kitchen aide stand mixer. It is a refurbished model from the outlet store that my husband bought me for our first Christmas – 20 years ago. It has lived in many different countries. It has been plugged into transformers while in those different countries for years at a time. It has returned to the states and managed the transition just fine. I am amazed at what a work-horse it is. It is an investment, but worth every penny.

  7. This is awesome. I look forward to watching your series and picking up some good tips. Love to bake as well, but always looking for some new ideas. Thanks again…

  8. I also love that I have more than one set of measuring cups, the silicone spatulas are something else I grab all the time. I have about 8 of them…….when I am on a baking or cooking spree they are all dirty at the end of the day.

Kitchen aids had so many promotions at Christmas time my hubby got the pro for the same price as an artisan. So………..it was great to get the red one that I’ve wanted since I got the plain jane one.

  9. I do love my Kitchenaid mixer, but I really love those adjustable measuring spoons from pampered chef…they are genius! Can’t wait to see what you have next week!

  10. I would have to say that I can’t live without wooden spoons and I think Pampered Chef really has the best ones!

  11. I think you should invest in a Kitchen Aid mixer. Every woman deserves one. My hubby told me that you are no better than the tools you work with and every good ‘shop’ needs good tools. Isn’t he wise? He actually got me the 6 cup pro this year…so I gifted my 23 yr old son with the old standard artisan. Go ahead, indulge yourself. I highly recommend it.

    1. Cindy, I would love to buy one. Seems like there is always something else more important.
I am saving up some Swagbucks though, hoping to get one.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  12. What a great series! You know I love baking, and if I can learn something new even better. My favorite tool is my 4 wheel pastry cutter.

  13. I can not go a day without using several pampered chef products. I love them
