Apple Dumplings Recipe

Jump to recipe!

We wrap our week filled with Apple Recipes with these amazing Apple Dumplings. These aren’t your typical Apple Dumplings though, they are more like Cinnamon Rolls, but they’re really pastry wrapped around  a yummy apple filling.

I made the Apple Dumplings with a very special new apple, SweeTango! It’s from Washington State and is a new variety of apples produced over the last decade by agriculture professors at the University of Minnesota. They are, well…Sweet and Tangy! The great folks at SweeTango sent me a box of these delicious apples as part of the Walmart Moms program. The SweeTango Apples will be available at Walmart around September 25th…be sure to give them a try!

Our whole family loved them, the boys loved snacking on them, I even had to hide them so I could bake with them, Doug loved them in his lunch, and I loved baking with them and making these delicious Caramel Dipped Apples.

Let’s make some Apple Dumplings…

Roll the dough out into a rectangle, 15×10 inches. Don’t be alarmed the dough is pretty wet and sticky at first, just add a little flour and knead it a bit.

Sprinkle the apples on and add the cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Starting at the long end, roll it up and then seal the edge with a pinch. Cut dumplings at 1 inch. I used a ruler and scored the dough to make sure they were even.

Place the dumplings in a buttered 13×9 baking dish. And pour the sugar sauce over.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes. Serve with a little whip cream if you like.

  1. awesome recipe! not quite sure if those count as dumplings tho.

  2. According to my Great-Grandma Bernice, who was born and raised and spent her whole life in Wabash County, what you have made here is technically called a “roly-poly” and NOT apple dumplings. Dumplings are always sealed “packages” of apples and then either boiled or baked. Just fyi.
