We get bombarded everyday with images and social media updates that remind us that we need to get control of our health. And honestly I find it extremely hard to set the time aside to do just that. I know I need to start and the best way I’ve found to do that is take small steps. And for the past 10 months I’ve been taking at least 10 minutes to do something that is good for me and my health. So I thought I’d share my 10 Tips to get healthy in 10 minutes or less with you.
10 tips to get healthy in 10 minutes or less
1. Have a Morning Routine
Getting off to a good start to your day is half the battle. Many times good intentions take a back seat to life’s distractions and having a set routine for your morning can help you focus on the rest of your day.
2. Drink a Green Smoothie
We hear all the time that we need to be eating more leafy green vegetables or just vegetables in general and while I’m not a fan of the taste of spinach or kale in salads or cooked dishes, I’ve found that I really enjoy them in a green smoothie that I make for breakfast and enjoy throughout the day.
3. Walk/Run/Bike for 10 Minutes
Get your body moving that’s the goal here, everyone has 10 minutes to spare that they can simply move.
4. 10 Push ups, 10 Sit ups and 10 Squats
Remember gym classes from elementary school? Well there are many benefits from doing those simple exercises that we were taught back then. One of which is they build muscle in your body and muscle burns more calories than fat. These exercises also increase your metabolism, and not only while you are exercising but even after you are done.
5. Add Dinner to your Slow Cooker (instead of eating out)
Here’s 10 minutes that not only will help you get healthy but it will save you money as well. So take the time to fire up your Slow Cooker and stash all the money you save for that new outfit you’ll need in a few months.
6. Jump Rope
You need to get your cardio in and what better way than a quick 10 minutes with a jump rope.
7. Make your own 100 Calorie Snacks
I don’t know about your family but it seems that we can make all the plans, do all the right things when it comes to eating right. We make and follow a menu plan, use organic vegetables and products as much as we can, adjust our portion sizes. But there is always one area that derails our plans… SNACKING. So after we figured this out we started to make our own 100 Calorie Snacks.
8. Hydrate/Drink Water
Almost everyone needs to drink more water daily. It’s hard to do, I know that sounds silly but I really need to have some sort of flavor in my water, so many times I’ll choose tea over plain water. And contrary to conventional wisdom caffeine does not dehydrate you so go ahead and enjoy that cup with no guilt.
9. Take 10 Minutes to Relax/Read/Meditate
STRESS! Did you know that stress can cause all kinds of health problems. Not only does it just make you plain grumpy and not a whole lot of fun to be around it causes your body to produce Cortisol. And this has been proven to add fat to your belly area which just happens to be the most unhealthy area you could have fat.
So take 10 minutes to read a book, or meditate. Simply do something or maybe nothing for 10 minutes to relieve some of the stress that has built up throughout the day.
10. Health Fair
Taking care of your health also means that you need to know what’s going on in your body and many people just don’t want to take the time or spend the money to visit the doctor so the next best thing you can do for yourself is go to a health fair.
Walmart is holding America’s Biggest Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. in more than 4,400 stores across the U.S.
During the event, customers can receive free blood glucose and blood pressure tests, vision screenings, product samples and health insurance information, as well as immunizations administered by Walmart’s more than 17,000 licensed pharmacists.
